Todos Santos is about 76 km from Cabo San Lucas, roughly an hour straight up Highway 19. It's a Pueblo Mágico, known for art galleries and its historic center, and most people treat it as a day trip. Stay a night or two and it opens up.
These are the places I keep going back to.
Before you even reach town, stop in Cerritos. Roca de la Jim has the best sunset view on this stretch of coast. Bring something to sit on and stay after the sun drops, when the sky does its best work.
San Pedrito is my go-to camping beach in Pescadero. It's the easiest way to wake up to the Pacific without paying for a hotel.
A simple quesadilla spot that's become a regular stop every time I drive through.
Playa Las Palmas is where a palm oasis runs straight into the Pacific. It's one of the prettiest beaches in the area and a great half-day walk.
Punta Lobo is the old port of Todos Santos, where local fishermen still bring their boats in. The hike out along the point gives you the whole coastline.
La Cachora is a protected turtle beach just north of town. Go quietly, keep your distance in nesting season, and leave nothing behind.
Vivero Todos Santos is a sanctuary for rare and exotic plants. It's a calm stop in the middle of the day when the beach is too hot.
An oasis in the desert with a temazcal, the traditional sweat lodge. Good for an afternoon when you want to slow all the way down.
Todos Santos is the easiest first night out of Cabo in a van: all pavement on Highway 19, about an hour each way. If you're renting Vanterella, 200 km a day are included, so a Todos Santos loop barely makes a dent. See the road trip guide for more on the route.
