How booking works

1. Send your datesUse the booking form. It's free and doesn't lock you in.
2. I confirm personallyI check the calendar and reply, usually the same day, with your total in dollars or pesos.
3. Pay 40% to hold your datesThrough a secure payment link, in USD or MXN.
4. Pay the rest 14 days before pickupI send your packing list, pickup spot and my camp map.
5. Pickup in Cabo San LucasWe walk through the van together, sign the rental agreement, and hold the security deposit.

Prices in dollars and pesos

You can pay in US dollars or Mexican pesos. Peso prices use a fixed rate of 18 MXN per US dollar, rounded to the nearest 50 pesos, so the price you're quoted is the price you pay.

Deposits and payments

To hold your dates	40% of the trip total
Balance	Due 14 days before pickup. Bookings made less than 14 days out are paid in full.
Security deposit	$500 USD ($9,000 MXN), held at pickup and released after the van is returned and checked. Extra kilometers, fuel, cleaning or damage are taken from it.

Cancellation

30+ days before pickup	Full refund, minus bank or card fees
15 to 29 days before	50% refund of what you've paid
14 days or less	No refund

If a hurricane alert or road closure makes the trip unsafe, we'll move your dates.

Kilometers

200 km a day are included, added up over your whole trip. A 3-night trip includes 600 km, which covers Cabo to La Paz and back with room to spare. Extra kilometers are $0.50 USD ($9 MXN) each, read from the odometer at return.

Where you can and can't drive

Vanterella is a classic two-wheel-drive van. She's happiest on pavement, and so is your deposit.

Who can drive

• Drivers must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license and a passport or official ID.
• Every driver has to be named on the rental agreement.
• No driving after drinking. Mexico's limits are strict and so am I.

Taking care of the van

• Return the van with the same fuel level you received it with.
• No smoking inside the van.
• Pets are welcome if you ask first. A cleaning fee may apply.
• Return her reasonably clean. Sand happens, but a deep clean may be charged.
• Tell me right away about any warning light, noise, flat tire or damage. I'll help you sort it out.

Rental agreement

These terms are a summary. At pickup you'll sign a rental agreement with the full details, including insurance and what you're responsible for if something is damaged. If the agreement and this page ever differ, the signed agreement applies.
